We did a regular vote for membership, 51% or greater yes votes. Granted we are waayyyy smaller than LAFCoFD but the final result was 75 to 5.

The second part was selling the benefits to our admin. They liked the data on reduced sick and vacation time so it went forward. Been on it since 2010.

Default LA County is getting serious about 48/96...

The only close story I can tell is from the Alameda County Fire Dept. The county was going to absorb the city of Union City and the UC local was all for it and ALCo Admin said no to the 48/96. So the Union City Local said- No, we arenít coming over then, thank you. The ALCo admin quickly changed their tune and their whole department schedule to the 48/96. The whole department thanked Union City for holding their ground and the ALCo Admin folded to the schedule. Glad it worked out.

As for LACo, you guys need to drain the Exec Board swap and get new leadership. If you need to, call the IAFF national office for help. But the majority votes should rule and the system should be rigged fair, not Hilary Clinton style.

Forcing a super majority vote after a simple majority already passed the measure on two separate occasions is BS. I'm sure the rationale is that this change effects everyone and so the vote should be a majority of everyone. However, if the 48/96 was that important to the "absent voters", then they would have or should have voted one of the first two times they had the chance.

At the end of the day, the FFs who can't be bothered to vote can't complain.

One of the longest issues to ever plague the fire service.

The wife is a union rep for the rank-and-file at a community college district.

By far the biggest issue to not only getting employees to speak up when they have been wronged by a stupidvisor but also getting them to file grievances. Then there have been issues with management pulling Trumps by saying one thing during contract negotiations and doing something completely different once the contract is voted on and in effect. Of course, the rank and file doesn't want to push the issues and management knows this. Same thing about not speaking up and not filing grievances.

When it comes down to it, the rank and file has power. But that power is worthless if the rank and file goes along with the status quo when they have been wronged.
