![]() ![]() What is Fire Exploring? Fire Exploring gives young people (ages 16-21) valuable insight into the fire fighting profession. This insight will allow the individual to decide whether or not he or she desires to pursue a greater role in the fire service. By participating in the Fire Exploring Program, the individual will gain personal confidence, learn to use various tools, develop mechanical skills and aptitude, and gain a greater awareness of personal and fire safety. What do Explorers do? Fire Explorers are the Firefighters of tomorrow. They train along side the men and women of the fire service, learning the skills and techniques needed for their future in the fire service. Once the basic skills are learned, the cadet may ride-along at the fire station, responding to the calls and assisting on-scene. Cadets are able to experience the fire service first hand. ![]() http://anfpost99.com/index.html The Angeles National Forest Explorer Post 99 is the only Wildland Fire Explorer program in the U.S. In 1995 the Angeles National Forest and Boy Scouts of America established an Explorer Post on the Angeles National Forest. The Explorer Post is a year round program with weekly meetings held on Wednesday evenings. Our Wildland Fire Explorer Post focuses on techniques used in wildland firefighting, investigation, fire science, fire engine operations, hand crews, mop-up, prevention, and much more. There is an annual Explorer Post Academy held in April for those Explorers who are at least 16 years of age. This academy includes Explorers from other agencies and is held Friday through Sunday for four consecutive weekends. At the end of the academy the graduating Explorers will be certified to fight wildland fires. |
